I am so glad that you all are safe and your house is intact although it sounds like it was really close.

It was a long time ago, but the house didn’t catch fire (charred outer walls) because the eaves were fully plastered and no wood was showing. It makes me wonder why all houses in So Cal don’t have plaster over the eaves, where lots of house fires start.

It was quite the weekend away in the IE! Every time there are fires are in the area, I think about feeling the heat from the houses burning above us on the hillsides. I can only imagine the intensity of the Eaton & Palisades fires with 80 mph winds blowing towards communities. At least we had time to pack up the cars.

The heat is one of the most memorable things. Yes, I think of those people driving through the flames on either side of the road!

Your skill at describing the physical as well as the emotional experiences pulls me into your writing. Hopefully this experience will help some get through theirs.

I put down the feelings pretty quickly and think they are pretty accurate. It is going to take people a while to get through, even if they didn’t lose their homes. It truly is a marathon. Thanks for reading! (I’ve used some of these ideas in a so-far unpublished novel.)
