So much worth considering here, as always, Victoria! Looking for Alaska sounds like such an important book - l can see why you've recommended it in the past. Also thanks for mentioning Circle of Hope - I want to read that!

I want to write more about Circle of Hope later because, unlike the books I’ve been reading about cults and Christian patriarchy, it looks at a group of people who really are trying to share a radical message of Christ’s love and inclusion. But they are human and their personal issues get in the way. Still, they all land on their feet and remain positive and loving.

I really like Lisa Damour’s writing and podcasting on teenagers. (She was also a consulting psychologist for the movie Inside Out 2, which I know should be less impressive than her academic chops, but to me shows that she’s relevant to”real-life”l kids and parents). As I engage with her work - and think back to being a teenager - it’s not true, as many a book banner might want it to be - that pretending that many of the risky behaviors on offer in adolescence cease to exist if you ignore them. They just exist with less context. I love hearing about the copies coming back battered and worn down. Well done.

wouldn’t it be something if teens always did teh smartest thing in every situation even though they’d never seen/read/heard/thought about how to act in that situation before? Hum.
