Thanks for sharing images from the protest - I thought the signs were all so creative! I laughed out loud when I read "my dog is smarter than Trump!". By the way, your dogs are so cute! Well I don't know if cute is the right word for big dogs... they look like fun to be around. So fun to make lemonade and baked goods with fresh lemons from your own tree!
Thanks for the review of Period 8 - sounds like a great book for high-schoolers!
People read when they're interested in the content of the story, be it sports, astronauts, dinosaurs (my son's intro to reading) or a love story. So glad you highlight a diversity of books that can appeal to younger readers
Great review of Period 8. Sounds like an exciting book to engage young adult readers. The low Lexile level reminded me of my son's teacher who only would give him credit for high Lexile level books as if content weren't an important part of reading! What kind of English teacher doesn't get that?
I think the enforcement of AR programs in schools as a way of getting kids to read caused a lot of these problem. I’ve often wondered about the lexile level of some classics like “The Great Gatsby” or Hemingway’s “The Sun Also Rises” or “The Old Man and the Sea.” I imagine they would be fairly low.
Also—think of a teacher doing the opposite. A 10-yr.-old kid wants to read Period.8 and the teacher says “perfect” because of the lexile level. The topics are for 14 years and up. (This is why we need librarians—the right book in the right hands at the right time. Readers’ advisory.)

I think of the dogs as ‘handsome.’ 🤣 They love to be on the move each day and then just take a long rest. Probably a good way to live!
So many good books for teens. The censors should let the teens sort out what they need for themselves.
Thanks for reading!

True. Even in fiction, people are looking for information (even emotional information).
