Oh, Virginia! A big hug from Houston to you. You show up for your people. As the daughter of a mother with dementia, this line gave me something new in what feels like a generally bad shake: Now, in her dementia, she has forgotten to be ashamed of being a flawed person connected to other flawed people.

You're right. We do need to talk about death. Years ago, someone recommended Advice to Future Corpses (And Those Who Love Them) by Sallie Tisdale. Once I got over my initially clammy palm response, I read the book. It was helpful. I haven't done all of the paperwork stuff she suggests, but it did motivate me to work with my dad to get my parents' documents in order.

Dementia is a terrible shake. Sorry you are going through that with your mom. And, yes, it’s important to talk about!

Thinking of you and your family. Grieving one person or pet is difficult. More than one is unimaginable. Your eulogy must have been beautiful. My best thoughts to you and your family during what will be a difficult holiday season.
